A Unique Organization: Rural Food and Family Services

Anonymous

Introduction:

I decided to conduct my research at a local organization which is the only organization in the town where they provide services and food for needy families. I was able to apply sociological theories in different areas of my observations while I was observing the organization. I observed at this organization for two days for 2 hours each. I was able to see the different types of families that enter the organization and how these families are the main importance of this organization. I was able to observe the different people whom work and volunteer at this organization and applied sociological terms to the different workers. Each worker has a certain role and status when it comes to volunteering at this organization. In my interviews I was able to speak with the respondents whom work at the organization that I chose. There was only three interviewees that I was able to encounter. It was a bit challenging the fact that I had to consider their time schedules and had to make sure that it was a convenient time for the interview to take place. The place that I decided to do the interviews was at the convenience of my own home. I was able to do interviews with the interviewees over the phone due to a personal matter in life. I did the interviews while these workers were on their break between doing their packing for the needy and providing for the services. These interviews were very explanatory on the daily duties that these individuals have to undergo. All of these interviews took place in the morning of the day because that is when the organization is open. Majority of these interviewee interviews are up to fifteen minutes and are very specific as to all of the questions that were answered. There was not a time where there was uncomfortableness or feelings of distress. All interviewees were also given a consent form prior to being interviewed. The proposition of the entire interview was to conduct research and qualitative research in terms of sociology. Throughout the interviews I was able to apply sociology to the interviews that are universal. There were many ideas and creative pin points that were helpful and help those in need. These people are dedicated in waking up every day just to please strangers that they may never see again.  For interviewee number one I was at the comfort of my home and it was able 10:30 a.m. and I was able to talk with the interviewee for fifteen minutes. For interviewee number two I was also at the comfort of my own home and it was at about 11:00 a.m. Lastly, for interviewee number three I was at my own home, but this interview took place after hours due to conflicting schedules. The time of this interview was at 6:00 p.m. When conducting research there are many documents that I was able to apply to my qualitative research. The organization is very helpful in many aspects. It gives back to those who are in desperate need and are in need of shelters as well. This organization allows residents to feel as if they still have a chance in life to be able to move on from this hardship. It is important to help families who are in need to be able to give back and donate to those who are in need. Documents that are found have been posted from public social media. I was able to see the numerous opportunities of this organization giving back to the community. Due to this source anyone is able to see the events that are occurring or are about to happen in the future. Many of the posts that are on Facebook are to notify the community of how to help those who are in desperate need.  This is how the community can get involved and help within the community for the citizens who are struggling day to day. The proposition of this organization is to thank God for allowing them to provide for the needy and also be able to assist in all matters or in all case scenarios to the people who cannot do it on their own. What I mean by do it on their own is by purchasing the day to day items that we use on the daily.
Literature Review:
Symbolic interaction is used in our everyday lives.  Goffman illustrates how within symbolic interaction there are different key factors behind the symbolic interaction that we use. One concept that he uses is Social roles. Social roles is the expected behavior that is connected with the certain duties of the role itself. Although there are many different roles in society they are already sought to be made for us. These roles are embedded to the point where we cannot change the roles because then they would not be considered that one specific original role. Goffman also mentions that even though we play these roles it does not mean we are actors. Being an actor would mean that any role that is taken would be out of character and not necessarily the real person one can be. Roles are also a way how we are already interpreting the actions of someone else who have already performed that role. That role can be a parent or a teacher. We cannot see ourselves as our self, it is created by not only observations, but watching others play the role they are enacting. We may even play roles without acknowledging the role. Goffman also talks about audiences. We as a society are always an audience to someone playing a role. Roles and audiences have a connection with one another. In any situation there is always a role and an audience.
Symbolic interactionism to Goffman is an important aspect to how communication is interfered through everyday life. Each interaction plays a key role as to why we behave or act the way that we do. One concept that Goffman emphasizes is face-to-face interaction. Within this interaction there is communication that comes into play and it is created in a way that appearance, manner, and audiences all collide to form face-to-face interaction.  Face-to-face interaction takes place to observe one's own performance. Without face-to-face interaction one does not have the ability to play their role or play as an audience in society. There is also another factor that plays a part in face-to-face interaction. That is definition of the situation. The way a situation is occurring matters significantly on not only the face-to-face interaction, but the way of the behaviors are to be enacted in that particular situation. Definition of the situation also defines how one will dress in a particular setting. Front is a term that Goffman uses that intertwines with the definition of the situation. Due to the definition of the situation the particular front or fronts that the person may be using will be the way they are to interact within their role performance. Within this front they are to be expected to interact in this particular setting.  Appearance is an important factor as to how people can behave towards someone. It is clear that the way that interaction is displayed with a close friend is different when in comparison to someone who is a doctor. Manner plays a part in appearance as well because that is how we communicate with society. Due to appearance the manner is distinguished based off the appearance of others. The way we act towards others is based on their appearance. Lastly, managing audiences is another key concept that Goffman focuses. We act a certain way in front of certain people because we are constantly playing different roles for different audiences.
Symbolic Interaction is also about role taking and role making. Role taking is when a person must take a role that is necessary in the situation. Role taking can happen in different settings with different audiences. We take a role in which we feel that is best fitted for the situation. This does not mean we are actors, but it does define the role in which is being conducted. Role taking also means that the person must take the role as close as possible. This means that the person must follow the performance of this particular role. Role making is when a person must decide a role and adjust to it based on the setting. Each role is reciprocal from another role because that is how symbolic interaction plays a function in society. All of these different roles are connected with one another. Society has managed to sustain an effective way to produce symbolic interaction amongst one another. Disclaimers are connected to roles as well. Due to the role of the person the person can make a comment because of the role they are taking. The way we interact with one another is different in each setting and with the person in which one is interacting with. The different settings, roles, and audiences all play a key role in symbolic interactionism.
Methods: Ethnography
During my two visits I was able to conduct field notes immediately after each visit. This way I was able to visualize and take into consideration each detail and manner of the organization. The date that I took the first observation was November 1st at 9:00 a.m. and stayed until 12:00 noon. The second observation took place on November 2nd at 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon as well. I was able to observe inside the organization which is where the food supply and services are available to the families who are in need. Throughout my observation I was able to include different sociological terms and apply them to different areas of my observation. The sociological terms that I found were definition of the situation, thick description, statuses/roles, and backstage/frontstage. I was able to provide a good amount of thick description because I was able to take the time to immediately take field notes after I had left the organization. I felt that helped me focus more on the detail in depth while I was focusing on the sociological terms as well. As a researcher I was able to conduct enough research to apply sociological terms within my data. Based off my data I found that the expectations of workers are the same expectations to be from families who are in need. The way that I was able to produce this is by using the NVIVO software. By applying my ethnography field notes I was able to conduct different examples, a word cloud, a word frequency, and also two queries. I was also able to provide word clouds for each example that I had created within my field notes. I have provided pictures as well and by doing so I just cut and paste from the NVIVO Software. In my analysis I was able to produce a word frequency on my field notes. Using the Word Search text query on NVIVO the word "Family" was used 17 times with a percentage of 4.5%. I found that I used "organization" 21 times with a weighted percentage of 5.57%, "Food" was used 12 times with a weighted percentage of 3.18%, and lastly, I used "Observing" 5 times with a weighted percentage of 1.33%.
Methods: Interview

Throughout the interviews, I was able to listen, interview, and transcribe the interview as it was being conducted. The tools that I used for the interviews were the following: my phone to record the conversation, a guide to ask the interviewees questions, but did not necessarily follow through with my list, and lastly, a charger so that my phone wouldn't die while I was doing the interviews. I found this an easy and important way to be able to do an interview because I feel that it gives the person more leisure to be able to explain or talk about or as much as they would like to since there wouldn't necessarily be an nonverbal communication behaviors.

Methods: Content Analysis

The methods that I was able to use is Microsoft Word. I was able to copy and paste into the Microsoft Word document providing the different documents that I was able to find through social media. Microsoft word will contain the documents needed for all the sources that are required. The only method that was also used was Facebook. The social media application was able to let me apply the sources to the Microsoft Word document. NVIVO was not used in this indication. NVIVO was not necessary for these documents. In my data I was able to find that there are many people in the organization that enjoy helping and inspiring others. It is amazing at the type of environment many people let them people be around. The types of people that are involved with this type of organization are people with sympathy, forgiveness, and who are good listeners. The reason that they are forgiving is because no matter who the person may be who will be in desperate need, then these people are there to help them through their struggle. This data is proven that us as humans who have what we need should be able to lend a hand to those in need. It is not only fulfilling to help others, but the enjoyment of knowing that you helped someone is memorable. I also found that giving you shall receive. These people receive love and support back in return. Giving time and dedication to those who are strangers is what I found is fascinating to this organization. In this data I was also able to find that sociology plays a key role in non-profit organizations. Non profit organizations impact lives of those who cannot support themselves, and impacts the lives of those who can care for themselves. Many do not have the resources to be able to succeed in life and it is important for others to help. One voice can impact an idea which can be lead by many.
Analysis:
In my observation I was able to provide a very clear thick description of what I was observing at my organization. One example from NVIVO is, "Reference 1 - 3.39% Coverage: There is only 2 black cars parked side by side each other and a guy is passing by on his bike. He is an older gentleman with a black beanie and a black baggy sweater." In this example I am clearly explaining in detail what I am visually seeing as I am parked in front of the organization. It is clear that with detail and color that I am using thick description. For the next example on thick description is from NVIVO which is, "Reference 2 - 3.19% Coverage: The family is a mom or a guardian with a baby in a stroller covered up in blankets, and a daughter that is holding onto the stroller. The stroller is black." In this example I am describing how the mom is with her baby that is in the stroller. The color of the stroller was added to provide a thick description of the stroller. The third example of thick description is from NVIVO which is, "Reference 3 - 2.94% Coverage: There is also another worker who is organizing the canned foods such as corn, peas, mixed vegetables, pineapples, tomato sauce, and green beans." The thick description that is provided in this example is by describing the different canned foods that are available for the families that are in need. I also decided to use a word cloud which is below. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/ZbxbjrAn2-fuPPyvBc8s9xTSWd5te7lATxEJaMFSKbJ9JpBZbyXyDhkThO5mHenOaQYjL4nQzmqlxFPmfKWMl98ukguY1k4xoreTfA-j_I_A4i6NvYEQhtBiMnuAkIAiET9xTObz
For Front stage back stage it is a term that is used in sociology. Front stage is what others see us act while we are performing. On the other hand, with backstage, the audience is not able to see what is really being felt by the person which can be stress or any other emotion they are expected to not show in the front stage. Here is an example using NVIVO, "Reference 1 - 3.56% Coverage: For the leader she is in her office if there is enough volunteers or workers for the day. She is sometimes stressed because of the lack of attention the organization may get." In this example I am explaining how the leader is stressed because she is the leader of the organization and there are areas where she is in need of help, but she is the one in charge which may make it difficult for her considering it is a volunteer place for her workers. For the second example I used NVIVO which is, "Reference 3 - 4.36% Coverage: She is very on top of things while in her front stage while she is with families, she is like an average worker or volunteer at the organization. She does everything to make sure the family can fulfill their need." The front stage of the leader is to make sure that her organization is fulfilling the needs of the families in the local area. My third example is from NVIVO which is, "As for the volunteer, there is a new volunteer. It is a woman who happens to have a condition where she must have everything organized a certain way and everything has to be clean and proper. Although this is her backstage, when she is in her front stage and a family comes in and she noticed they are misplacing certain food items she does not make it obvious that she is upset." I have provided both front and back stage for one of the volunteers. I noticed this immediately once I was observing her during that day of my observation.
For Roles and Statuses I have provided 3 examples using NVIVO. Roles and statuses are used every day in society when interacting with others. Status is a position that a person is taking while in a particular setting. As for roles, is an expected behavior of a particular role based on the norms, behaviors, and personality characteristics. Roles and statuses have a great relation with one another. For my first example I used NVIVO which is, "Reference 1 - 2.97% Coverage: As I am observing the lady who is in charge her role is to make sure the customer is content and also makes sure there is order and organization." The role of the lady whom I was observing was to make sure that the customer is being provided with satisfaction while she is at the organization. For my second example it is, "Reference 2 - 3.48% Coverage: The worker's role is to make sure there is a clean environment for the organization and to help and assist the residents that come in and are in need of food or services." The worker's role and status is provided in this example. The role of the worker is to have a clean environment for the organization inside and out, and the worker's status is to help and assist the families who are in need. My third example is, "Reference 3 - 4.03% Coverage: Another worker comes in and asks if there was any canned foods that they were in need of. His role was to provide for the organization in case there was a need of a certain fruit or vegetable can." The role of this worker is to ask the leader and other workers to make sure that they are fulfilled with the items that they have inside the pantry. The worker  also has the role of organization. Organizing the food cans while they are there is important. Below I have used a word cloud for the roles/statuses. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/bHcYjYPXJmJHUPu4XDF7pHnOu03KEaNCR0N4m2vHZdG-c0veL92myKJBB5B6iippNcGMjr3Xlmt_gEpVc44_03CoXqcgBkIm4SuR7VHtuCTDPfZVF0Oi0kgfG34JlgFWZm80tCcH
Definition of the situation is what society uses to know what is expected of them in a particular setting. It is also what is expected of others in a particular setting as well. The first example that I used is, "Reference 1 - 2.72% Coverage: Defining the definition of the situation is set by the way they act and dress appropriately while attending families who are in need."
This example is provided to explain the aspect of the organization and because of the setting the workers and the families in need are both expected to act or behave a certain way. For my second example it is, "Reference 2 - 5.97% Coverage: When the organization is open the definition of the situation is for all the workers to be respectful and to dress appropriately for the families in need. The appropriate attire is important for when a family might be in need for help to carry items to their car or on their bike or stroller." In this example is it defining the definition of the situation. The workers are respectful because they are at the organization and know that it is expected of them to be kind and courteous to the families in need. As for my third example, it is, "Reference 3 - 3.29% Coverage: The workers are dressed in pants and long-sleeves and shoes so that in case they may have to carry or lift heavy items they are well prepared for the situation." In this example I am able to clarify that because of the workers appropriate dress code that they are using definition of the situation because it is likely to dress this way if they are going to be packing and helping families in need. Below I have provided a word cloud using the definition of the situation. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/BOYkE0byelV688zTzuaptnUUo1xsPyZUI80jxaXSmw4foPl8TD1oDkj2A4ZTXvB8t3euyJOoBtfjlFkFzN0NjzHheV3lpXIB1BJ-wcPze0di_5KLmCJwP9ZnE6dvBLBaMYWmukTn
For meaningful action the workers and families go hand in hand because they both create a meaningful action within one another which keeps the organization within a flow. For my first example it is, "Reference 1 - 3.74% Coverage: The meaningful action that I observed was that each individual who works had an expectation to be nice to the families that were coming inside the organization and asking to be helped." In this example the meaningful action is to provide the best customer service to the needy families. Although it is expected, the workers really do enjoy having families come inside and using this organization for resources. For my second example, it is, "Reference 2 - 3.68% Coverage: These are families who are going out of their way with embarrassment since while observing there was many who had children and did not have the foods to provide for their children." In this example I am explaining how the families are going into this organization with embarrassment because they are lacking in the area which they wish they can provide for their family. IN my last example it is, "Reference 3 - 8.47% Coverage: The workers are expected to provide and be courteous to those families asking for help in an area where they cannot provide for their families. As for the families who are in need are expected to be nice to the workers because these volunteer workers are there to help and assist them. As for the worker who makes sure that food supply is good he is expected to be make sure that there is enough food for everyone." In this example it is explaining how one needs the other. As in the workers are there at the organization so that families can have food and be able to provide with services, and the families need the organization because without the organization they may go hungry. That is why meaningful action is important because the purpose of an organization such as this one is provide and fulfill the needs of families in which are in need of food and services. Below I have provided a word cloud for the meaningful action. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/dbEJ4z2Ms7e2E_MCZfOyGly4rZhrACtvrrc5oypu1nner-0l_rmvmUJUsm0eP26VwIVD4JCLpk4iyhE8iiJEU5oYRph8dvk-wx4LQFFL7zxv53DReykgbPWZBRm8M7Q_r_XCH6fZ
With NVIVO I was also able to do two queries where based on my ethnography field notes I was able to get a query for Family, and Organization.
2 QUERIES:
  1. FAMILY:
<Internals\\Ethnography> - § 1 reference coded  [53.37% Coverage]
Reference 1 - 53.37% Coverage
On the second day, I am acknowledging the front and back stage of the workers. For the leader she is in her office if there is enough volunteers or workers for the day. She is sometimes stressed because of the lack of attention the organization may get. She makes phone calls to different organizations asking for event contributions, and even collaborating with different organizations to make funds and canned food drives for the needy. She is very on top of things while in her front stage while she is with families, she is like an average worker or volunteer at the organization. She does everything to make sure the family can fulfill their need. As for the volunteer, there is a new volunteer. It is a woman who happens to have a condition where she must have everything organized a certain way and everything has to be clean and proper. Although this is her backstage, when she is in her front stage and a family comes in and she noticed they are misplacing certain food items she does not make it obvious that she is upset. She makes sure that the family is comfortable with being at the organization. Defining the definition of the situation is set by the way they act and dress appropriately while attending families who are in need. When the organization is open the definition of the situation is for all the workers to be respectful and to dress appropriately for the families in need. The appropriate attire is important for when a family might be in need for help to carry items to their car or on their bike or stroller. The workers are dressed in pants and long-sleeves and shoes so that in case they may have to carry or lift heavy items they are well prepared for the situation.  The meaningful action that I observed was that each individual who works had an expectation to be nice to the families that were coming inside the organization and asking to be helped. These are families who are going out of their way with embarrassment since while observing there was many who had children and did not have the foods to provide for their children. The workers are expected to provide and be courteous to those families asking for help in an area where they cannot provide for their families. As for the families who are in need are expected to be nice to the workers because these volunteer workers are there to help and assist them. As for the worker who makes sure that food supply is good he is expected to be make sure that there is enough food for everyone. If he was to not check up on the food supply then there would be many who would not be able to choose what foods they may need.
2.) Organization:
<Internals\\Ethnography> - § 1 reference coded  [46.63% Coverage]
Reference 1 - 46.63% Coverage
I have arrived at the location where I will be conducting an observation at the organization I chose. It is about 9:00 a.m. which is the time that this organization opens. There is only 2 black cars parked side by side each other and a guy is passing by on his bike. He is an older gentleman with a black beanie and a black baggy sweater. He is not going that fast. I am waiting for him to pass, so that I can get off the car. After he passes I notice a family that is walking towards the Organization that I chose. The Organization that I chose has a sign inside on the window stating that they are open. The family is a mom or a guardian with a baby in a stroller covered up in blankets, and a daughter that is holding onto the stroller. The stroller is black. As the family is approaching the Organization I see the parent or mom get her stroller ready to make space for the food that she is about to receive prior entering the organization. As I approach the door to open it for this family it is nice and warm inside the organization. As soon as I walk in the lady who is in charge approaches the lady and tells her welcome and she is to feel free to grab whatever she may need for her children. As I am observing the lady who is in charge her role is to make sure the customer is content and also makes sure there is order and organization. There is also another worker who is organizing the canned foods such as corn, peas, mixed vegetables, pineapples, tomato sauce, and green beans. The worker's role is to make sure there is a clean environment for the organization and to help and assist the residents that come in and are in need of food or services. The room is quite small so that was not very much room to observe elsewhere. After this family was done gathering their items, they left the organization with smiles on their faces. After they left there was another gentleman and a teenage girl who came and were in need of food. The leader of the organization provided feminine products for the teenage girl since they provide items such as pads for women's monthly. Another worker comes in and asks if there was any canned foods that they were in need of. His role was to provide for the organization in case there was a need of a certain fruit or vegetable can. Also, within my fieldnotes I was able to produce a word cloud for the entire document. Below is the word cloud provided by NVIVO. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/poPbhvWdTqCb98vDT14Uy4lcFYKwhIEAp0RPiyQ6_qW03eanZYylnTHc6OxpECXXbgxj7u4VhHoUhCdbgk_lT2XCLAS372mfxTU22biCp-PjqS03ArLpUOfXOxMIRFJcgvGj3LAR
Lastly, I also produced a word search text query picture that explains the relationship with the word Family. I wanted to include the picture because this shows how I used family within the field notes. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/oyllRPU-jA8gBcOjn4rcYN2uzVRIwuPE25MNdIty-XFog4u-ChfqEM4DQ4pKVydsVnVjGLf7bYD7mjZmebCZ0OVdEUcl-6IvC3TxNkPom8YgvpAY4jJnieUB2Lk60HhXA7eH4Ii3
My first example would be the roles for the interviewee number one.  The example is, "Well, you know, just make sure that everything in the room is like, clean and up to date." In this organization the Interviewee's role is to make sure that the organization is clean and safe for the families that are going to be using the services. Another example would be, "Or if I could assist them in any way, which I have done in the past before just basically become a resource for these people that need help more than others." Lastly, the other example is "I'm here volunteering, I'm not getting paid, you know." My second example is backstage. I only have one example in this section and that is, "I'm here volunteering, I'm not getting paid, you know, we don't really share those type of insight or details with." My third example is front stage. I also only have one example in this section which is, "I get like a bittersweet moment because I get excited that they're coming in, because it's going to be someone that I'm going to establish a relationship with." My fourth example is meaningful action, and an example of this would be, I get like a bittersweet moment because I get excited that they're coming in, because it's going to be someone that I'm going to establish a relationship with." My fifth example is looking glass self. The reason I chose this example because the actions of the interviewee are damaging effected by the audience. An example of this would be, "Or if I could assist them in any way, which I have done in the past before just basically become a resource for these people that need help more than others." For the second Interviewee I was able to apply them to terms. My first example would be roles. An example of this would be, "At my organization I have to organize the canned foods that I have in the storage room and to make sure that the rooms are clean." The role of this interviewee is the make sure that there is a sufficient amount of canned foods for the families that are in need of services. My second example would be back stage. An example of this would be, "it's kind of stressful it is kinda like a job. And being that I like it is known as doing something it's not like it isn't doing anything to like, the word goes around. Like, we have volunteers that want to help. And then they tell their friends and they want to help. So it's kind of be stressful,
When they come again, they're covered by them. And so like kind of stressful for people that like to like other people like coming again, can get frustrating." Being part of an organization can become very stressful and planning certain duties for different tasks. My third example is front stage. An example of this would be, "I liked it so I wanted to be involved in helping more of the people in the community and I just liked seeing people's faces and other people wanting to help out." The interviewee enjoys helping others and it brings a smile upon the interviewees face.
My fourth example is meaningful action. An example of this would be, "We spread out the word and they know that there's people come really early to get in line to b first and we usually have three rounds where like the first group to go in and go We'll serve them food and let them eat and enjoy the meal and then that you need to get their toys and then everyone's done we like  said we like the end up exiting the voting. And then the other people that are waiting in line and like you let it in and stuff particularly like about like four or five, three or four or five rounds depending on how many people are there, but there's usually a long line." My fifth example is looking glass-self. An example of this would be, "it's okay to ask for help. That's what we're here for. We're here to volunteer to help them as much as we can. And more to meet them feel bad, or anything about asking, like, everyone has everyone struggles, and everyone and everyone should go gather around and help each other and not be selfish, or just care about themselves, like they should care about everyone."In this data Front stage was able to be displayed. In the front stage there were many smiles and organization. The smiles carried out a lot of the comfortness when helping those in need. The front stage is when there is an audience that the actor must be portraying. This audience see the expected behavior of the portrayed actor. For this example it would be helping the needy with food and services. Backstage would be this organization looking for volunteers. It is the backstage behavior that is displayed because when providing services for the needy. This example is not displayed. The workers or volunteers at this organization do not make it seem like they are in need of volunteers because they make it seem like they are able to manage everything at this organization. The behavior is very positive and inspiring that many people use these services that are provided. This organization does not discriminate nor make those feel less worthy of themselves. This is important because it keeps the families who are struggling to feel comfortable. They know that if they walk into this organization they are able to be themselves in a way that they can't in other places. Some of these people are homeless are and this is the only place where they feel no judgement for being homeless. What this organization is providing is not only services, but love and emotion that these people can encounter. It is emotionally and physically stressful for someone struggling in the streets and to not be judged or even be taken accountable to be heard of what they have to say. Or to even express their story or how they ended up where they are. Another example that is inspiring is the fact that the workers are able to express happiness and are devoting their time to help the needy. Another example would be meaningful action. Meaningful action in these documents is displayed because of the emotion that is attached to the giving of their time and services. These special people are devoting their time to the people who are going through struggles in their life and it is valued at their time. This time spent volunteering at this organization is never lost, but it is worth great value to spend it with those who cannot buy or be independent. Meaningful action is displayed by the excitement when the services are being used. It is a great feeling when there are many people contributing to the events that are being held by this organization. Those who volunteer are from different age groups which is a great benefit to the organization. Teaching the young youth how to devote their time and help those who are in need is a great start. Using these different types of behavior can truly have an impact on the lives who are in need of one another. There are people who are struggling and going through difficult times and the fact there there are people who could be doing other things are at this organization and helping the unfortunate. For interviewee number three I was also able to contain five examples that are the following: front stage, backstage, meaningful action, looking glass self, and roles. My first example is front stage and an example of this would be, "make them feel like they're here at home, give them something to eat, or something to drink. And then we started off after that we go on to questioning and just trying to try to help him get back on the feet,
basically." My second example is backstage. An example of this would be, "I always come at
six in the morning. We get we get people coming in around seven. Yeah, I typically start off by always the rooms like cleaning tables and everything, like the Rooms and then start off and office after that make, make my day from there." My third example is meaningful action and an example of this would be, "I always see Billy around around a certain area times yeah he's he's always around the you know, I sometimes I see him when I'm not at work and you know by him his cheeseburger cup of joe Yeah, I mean, you know, he always asked me for money and all but you know, I rather I rather have him he then use that money for his addiction or whatever, you know, whatever the case is, right? Yeah, it's it's really hard to you know, give them money and you're basically feeding feeding their addiction, but, you know, I'm gonna I rather keep them well fed and healthy. Settle down." My fourth example is roles and an example of this would be, "Put together a couple hygiene stuff for them in a baggie, you know, for them to pick up and take and just provide them with little necessities that they need. And of course, we house them." My fifth example is looking glass-self and an example of this would be, "I mean, if you get caught in a whole I mean, you got you guys for hopping know, you can't be afraid to ask for help. Because if, you know, ask for how you can be stuck in that hole for a very long time. And, you know, but if you ask for help, you know, someone overhears you and they bring you like a role person to, you know, help you get out of that hole. This is somewhat it's this program or, or this
organizing organization that we have. It's basically kind of like that, you know, we just try to help out the people."

Conclusion:

Based on my data the finding that I encountered were that many people face different obstacles in their life and it is important as a society to help those in need. Even though we may be having a bad day or a good day it is important to keep front stage and back stage in tact when encountering people who are in need of help and services. I enjoyed creating the word cloud through NVIVO. The organization that I chose is very unique and it is very satisfying to observe the workers and the families that walk in. Observing is quite interesting especially being able to provide thick descriptions and detail on a setting and the area in which the observer is observing. I enjoyed observing at my location and I am interested in the different interview responses I will be receiving within the next few weeks. Conducting research through interviewing I was able to obtain a lot of informative information. Speaking with people who enjoy helping those in need was very interesting and motivating in being a good Samaritan no matter the time or place. It taught me how to be a kind person in any aspect that may go in life. One way that can impact a person's life is just by the awareness and attention that a person gets when they are at their lowest. These sincere people are there to give their attention to those who do not get enough or even any attention at all. Despite the different documents that I was able to find, and the sociology displayed in each document it is clear in the qualitative research. The fact that social media plays an important factor is the key to gathering people. Making awareness in the community is the key rule in making a community better. Creating a safe and clean environment helps all of the people around the organization. Without the help of any of these people then there would not be an organization. The way that many people portray themselves through the front and back stages it really plays an impact in how people are going to be treated.
