Interview Paper
Introduction
I interviewed a people's rights organization that defends civil liberties, regardless of gender and race throughout the nation. I interviewed my group for two days, to gain insight of how their organization and members' actions correspond to the sociological theories discussed in class. My research consisted of two interviews with two staff members: the field organizer/key informant and the fellowship lady. There are various roles present in the group, but the ones I engaged with were: the field organizer, the fellowship lady, and the mobilization/civic coordinator. I found that all three individuals are independently different from each other and seem to share similar experiences from within the group. I also found out the impact of their group and how it has impacted their lives and countless others. The analysis section presents the five different social theories from class and some word frequency queries as well.
Methods
I gathered my data by interviewing two persons from the group: the fellowship lady, and the field organizer. I went to the Hive office on a day to conduct the first interview and the second interview was via phone call all done on the same day. I repeated to both about their anonymity disclosure and prior to our interviews they had signed some consent forms which explained the procedures during the interview. Both interviewees were aware that they had the right to stop the interview at any time if for personal reasons, felt uncomfortable. The first interview was Tuesday, November 20, 2018 with the fellowship lady for 16 minutes and 22 seconds. The second interview was with the field organizer which was also done the same day via phone call later and it was for 20 minutes and 53 seconds. Both my interviews went smooth, but frustrating at first when they kept on rescheduling me.
Both interviews needed to be transcribed so I did this at the lab which is on campus and used the website "transcriptone.tk" for this process. The first thing needed to be done was to convert both audio files to MP3 format, which was the only type of audio the website takes. Once I had converted the audio files, I downloaded the files to my computer and uploaded a saved copy to the website "transcriptone.tk" to start the transcription process. The transcripts were not accurate, and instead I used the subtitle editor featured on the site "transcriptone.tk", this process took two exhausting and long days. I then used the lab for a whole day using the computer software called NVivo. I used the same five nodes I had created for the ethnography and two word clouds. I focused on the same five theories: frontstage/backstage, status, roles, definition of the situation, and meaningful action. The word queries were helpful in showing me which words were mostly said throughout the interviews.
As a researcher, I found that the data was not easy to obtain because the group would get back to me two days later and at times would not reply to my emails or calls. I don't think it was a result of them not wanting to be a part of the interview, but more of a work schedule issue. In the end, I think the interviews went smooth, and I obtained the data I needed. Some information was surprising to me, and I believe I got some good responses. It was hard for me because my questions were not the best and I did feel like my interviewees felt awkward at times. Overall, I would say that through this experience I don't find it too hard to interview people, I just needed the right questions.
Analysis
My two word frequency queries depict which kind of words were said during the interviews and the emphasis is on the larger words. I did notice that some words like, "people" and "community" were used many times and most of the time the respondents began with these words because they are passionate about what they do with this group. Like I mentioned earlier, the word clouds are helpful in depicting certain words over other ones.

Roles
The Roles theory means the expected behaviors for a status. Roles and performance pressures go hand in hand and are constantly surrounding us. In reference to Roles, these are four of the best quotes used by the interviewees that best depict this theory. This quote is used by the fellowship lady in relation to her role and what is expected from her and how she believes she's making a difference,
Reference 2 - 2.31% Coverage
"Respondent: Doing my job, giving these workshops. I'm supporting the work in the Valley. Around immigration I believe that that's how I am making a difference and it's not always that I'm being only doing immigration it could also be with the criminal justice system, which I am also very passionate about."
The second quote is by the field organizer and what was expected from his role,
Reference 1 - 2.45% Coverage
"Respondent: Great question. My role in this aspect, uh what the PR stands for and its mission is to manage. I am sorry my role was to manage and to lead a field campaign with talented individuals who would consistently have contact with residents in different areas in the 51st district."
This other quote is by the field organizer and he talks about role changing and how he not only has one role, but also other ones which are very important to him,
Reference 3 - 0.68% Coverage
"I have taken on this role/task of being a leader, being a mentor to some people."
It shows he is committed to his roles and people expect a lot of him since he is seen as a mentor to most. The last quote is by the fellowship lady and she expands on her many roles within the organization which is her passion,
Reference 1 - 0.73% Coverage
"I do work around immigration, rapid response training, sport shops on know your rights workshops."
This quote shows that a person can have one status, but many roles he or she must be expected to follow through.
Status
The Status Theory means the position held by a person or job. When a person states it, they are "making status", developing a sense of self. In reference to Status, these are three of the best quotes used by the interviewees that best depict this theory. This quote is used by the fellowship lady in relation to her status,
Reference 1 - 2.52% Coverage
"I will be leaving the people rights organization towards the end of December. But even then, I will continue my relationship in supporting the people's rights group's work. Because I believe that is important especially here in the valley. So, I will continue to volunteer when it comes to campaigns and whether it's like lobby visits."
The fellowship lady expands on her status which is important to her to continue in being a volunteer. The second quote is by her again regarding volunteering,
Reference 2 - 3.49% Coverage
"Volunteers such as myself will go with these individuals to their check-ins. It can also be like their court check in, for some documentation and they have a court date or a speeding ticket. I don't know. I don't know like a misdemeanor and we will go with them as support because sometimes ICE can be there to detain people so that way we are there as legal servers to see that everything's done quote on quote by the book and their rights aren't being violated."
Her commitment can be seen in how she expresses her devotion to the group and cause. The last quote is by the field organizer and he expands on his status coming to an end within the organization and how he is on a waitlist,
Reference 1 - 1.75% Coverage
"As of now I am just on their mailing list and I wouldn't say that I don't believe in their values or mission that they're doing. I am just or haven't became or decided to go back and become active again."
This quote shows how even though he might not be part of staff, he still part of it, like a back up person.
Meaningful Action
The meaningful action theory explains the meanings behind why people do something, the details behind. It is the actions behind individuals and these actions is the reaction to others. In reference to meaningful action, these are four of the best quotes used by the interviewees that best depict this theory. This quote is used by the fellowship lady in relation to meaningful action and this response was the result of how their group deals with outsiders,
Reference 1 - 2.49% Coverage
"So, I wouldn't really know, but if we are at an action or community event and there are people that are anti-protestors or something along that nature. We just ignore them. We try not to get into any altercations with them because once we start talking to them and arguing with them it takes away the purpose of why we are there."
This shows how there is a reaction in its way, in case, there is ever to be anti-protestors and how she or the group would react to them. The second quote is by her again,
Reference 2 - 5.27% Coverage
Interviewer: What does it mean what does it mean to you being part of this group?
Respondent: Being part of this group just means that I am doing something for my community. I'm doing something for people that I know or are going through things that are difficult. I do work around immigration, rapid response training, sport shops on know your rights workshops. So, I know that being a part of this group I'm giving people beneficial information and I'm supporting and protecting our immigrant community from attacks whether they are policies or things like the truth act may not be followed through by our sheriff or things like that. I believe that this group is definitely making a difference.
This quote shows how she interprets her job and why she does what she does and what she thinks this group is making a difference. The last two quotes are by the field organizer,
Reference 1 - 2.22% Coverage
"Respondent: I have come to learn that there are people…. People are always watching.
Interviewer: Mhm.
Respondent: And it doesn't matter if you don't know somebody. People know of you. Or something like that you know, it's not who you know its who knows you."
Reference 2 - 0.82% Coverage
"Where I have to really evaluate and think constantly of what my actions are the results of them."
His meaningful action is evident in this quote due to his internal evaluations of how he must act out in public because people are always watching.
Front/Backstage
The frontstage/backstage theory revolves around different roles we show to others. Frontstage is doing stuff with a purpose and backstage is doing the opposite with no roles. The backstage becomes the radical space more of a relaxed stage. In reference to front/backstage, these are three of the best quotes used by the interviewees that best depict this theory. This quote is used by the fellowship lady,
Reference 1 - 2.29% Coverage
"my opinion on my fellow staff members is that they are all amazing are staff attorneys. You know like from our fellows to our organizers they are all amazing people we all love the work that we do. We work together we know that some of us may work on different issues, but our issues are intersectional."
It is evident that her frontstage was being used because she expressed what is supposed to be expected of her and her opinion of her staff. The second quote is by the field organizer regarding his backstage I sensed,
Reference 2 - 0.59% Coverage
I think when I'm most honest is the times when I am by myself. Right.
He didn't reveal too much, but this was his more relaxed stage. The last quote is by him again,
Reference 4 - 3.19% Coverage
"In some of these long drives where I would be a passenger in one of these canvasser's car. I did notice that I would open up about certain things that I was opinionated on or certain issues in that particular kind of stuff. You know. Just as you mentioned feeling comfortable, but also in relation to that, having a strong commitment to your belief and staying firm to that."
It was nice being able to hear him share this with me because it showed that even within his fellow staff member, he shows another person.
Definition of the situation
The definition of the situation theory means establishing the situation, setting the expectations and setting the mood. In reference to definition of the situation, these are three of the best quotes used by the interviewees that best depict this theory. This quote is used by the field organizer,
Reference 1 - 3.51% Coverage
"Respondent: Most definitely. I believe the impact, you are able to see the impact not just in the people that were contacted whose doors were knocked, who filled out pledge cards and asked questions. But also, through the canvassers who were surrounded by like-minded people got to see the work and the mission of the PR group firsthand and by the end of it were definitely impacted as a result of this campaign."
The field organizer established his situation and talked about the impact as a result of the campaign. The second quote is by the field organizer again,
Reference 3 - 2.91% Coverage
"Respondent: When I think about the impact and some of the folks that I continue to think about were some of the shyest when they first came in. Because we were the right fit for them or fit for us. However, their commitment and work ethic definitely showed and towards by the end of the campaign they completely evolved completely new person."
This theory is evident in his quote as he talks about the definite impact, and the canvassers being a good fit. The last quote is by the fellowship lady,
Reference 1 - 5.02% Coverage
"I guess some people you know love this group, they love the work that we do. There is also other people that do not, there people that believe that you know people deserve equal rights. So I can say it's like half and half depending on where you're at. Here in the Valley you know people can be more conservative and there's other areas that are more I guess liberal. I mean it it all depends on where we are or what region we're in. In California it goes both ways I mean there are many people that are in support of the work that we do and encourage us and then there's some people that call us communist and you know just don't like us so. Yeah. That's that."
She does a good job in defining the situation and how people feel about the group.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I interviewed two people from a group which is in the valley. I then analyzed the information I gathered from these interviews using the sociological theories discussed in class. The theories I used can be seen in my interviewee's day to day work and life. I used frontstage/backstage, status, roles, definition of the situation, and meaningful action for my five theories. The tool I used to analyze my data was a software called NVivo and all other information came from the two word clouds I added, that depicted words said during in the interview.
Ethnography Paper
Introduction
I observed a people's rights organization over the course of a week and they defend civil liberties, regardless of gender and race throughout the nation. This group stands for the things I value as far as women's rights, equality, and bringing awareness to injustices that people of color go through in this society. I observed my group for two days, to gain insight of how their organization and members' actions correspond to the sociological theories discussed in class. My research consisted of two participatory observations that consisted of 3-5 hours each. There are many roles, but the ones I was able to interact with were: The Field Organizer, the Field Fellow, and the Mobilization/Civic engagement coordinator. My observations were in two different places, and one of those observations was at an event. I found that the staff/members all occupy different statuses/roles and each staff member focuses on different campaigns or community events than the larger organization. These roles change depending on the definition of the situation and I was able to see the roles change because of the election this year.
Methods
I collected my data from the two participatory observations I did within the course of a week. In my two observations, I was at two different locations which consisted of their office location and a local restaurant. I collected my data with pencil, notepad, and typed notes through my computer and phone note app as I observed. By being in two separate environments, I was able to see different roles/statuses and it gave me a better picture of the workplace setting versus social setting. It was interesting seeing people act different depending on their definition of the situation.
My first observation was their Hive office and the city of Firebaugh which was on October 27th, 2018. I participated in this observation and it began early in the morning at 8:30am and ended at 2pm. The location at first was a private setting, their office and the second location was in Firebaugh which was out in public. It consisted of about 25 people most of which were volunteers, staff, and canvassers that were participating that morning. My second observation was at an election watch party which was private, and it was on November 6th, 2018. The party was held at a restaurant and it was hard to count everyone, but a rough estimate which I noted was about 80. I was also participating in this observation which began at 5:35pm and finished at 7pm.
For my observations I put my focus on social theories discussed in class and my observation field notes were in thick description. Thick description is detailed description of scene, which is what I tried to do. My theories consisted of meaningful action, front/back stage, roles, statuses, and definition of the situation. I collected all my data and analyzed it through the software NVivo. I coded my data through a text search query, word frequency query, and word cloud. I created 5 different nodes from my thick description. The nodes I created were meaningful action, definition of the situation, roles, status, and back/front stage. I felt like it was easy to obtain this information and data because the people were easy to get along with and welcoming to me.
Evidence: NVivo Observation, October 27, 2018 (Word cloud)

Evidence: NVivo Observation, November 6, 2018 (Word cloud)
I think the data I collected was good and it clearly reflects the theories. My observations went well and although I was a Martian when it came to my first observation, the people were nice to me. For the second observation, I was more of a converter which was easier for me to just talk and observe everyone. The organization was very friendly and seemed to care genuinely. The field organizer was helpful since he was my key informant and helped me get a lot of insight by allowing me to observe. Most of my field notes/observations were through participatory observations which was hard for me to write/type everything. On my second observation, I would quickly type it in my phone notepad and it wasn't obvious because they would think I was texting. On the first observation I had a pen/pencil and a notepad where I wrote down everything, and my laptop. I organized everything on NVivo and the nodes helped me keep everything neat.
Analysis
Thick Description:
My first observation was at their Hive office and the city of Firebaugh which was on October 27th, 2018. These are my field notes, I mention the time and how I entered the office and what I was wearing,
"It is 8:30 in the morning and the sun is already coming out, today looks like a good day. I am wearing comfortable shoes because I will be walking with other canvassers today. I will be canvassing today as well, something I am looking forward to."
As I was waiting to be let inside the building I took notes. I described this setting in my notes as,
"I must wait to be buzzed in because the doors are locked. I was asked to come early today because there will be a meeting before canvassing. The environment is tidy and clean."
When I was inside, the field organizer began the meeting and I took down his statements,
"What we are doing is important and this election is going to get more intense, but you have to your work and please emphasize why it's important to vote guys."
I felt like this talk was intended for her staff and not the volunteers. After the field organizer spoke everyone looked serious. Some canvassers began to leave with their tablets and pledge cards. The pledge cards were to get people to sign up for email and volunteering events. I felt like the pep talk worked because people were serious and focused after.
Roles:
After the meeting was over. Everyone left to their locations for their role, canvassing. I explained in my notes as,
"I am waiting to be assigned a group and location to where my group must drive. I will not be driving since I am volunteering. I hear my key informant say I will be canvassing in Firebaugh."
The canvassing portion of the observation lasted up until 2pm which was when we headed back. After everyone was done canvassing from my group we got back in the drivers' car and I reflected in my notes as,
"Each of the canvassers are equals, they all must work and communicate effectively to each other."
My second observation took place at a local restaurant. I described the roles that took place in my field notes as,
"I can clearly see the roles of the group and I can tell who is in charge, the nice lady is in charge and so is the fellowship lady I spoke with. The nice lady is telling everyone what to do and the organizer is decorating, and now she is taking pictures by the photo booth."
Status:
During this event, I noticed that a status was given to the two lady's in charge of making the food. It was an imaginary status of high status because everyone looked hungry and many of which would keep asking for their food at times. I thought this was interesting and I explained this is my notes as,
"It feels awkward since we're paying attention to food than the news reporter talking about the results about the election. The cook and register lady since right now food is a priority, their status is high."
Throughout the event people were also giving the election a status instead of focusing on presenting themselves to others. This was evident in my notes as,
"Not that many people talking. An older lady is gasping because of the results she looks a bit shocked and anxiety."
Everyone continued sitting down instead and only mingled when the bingo game began and this is evident in my notes,
"A big loud noise of people yelling right now, bingo game is going on, there are in the back area where the club has a lot of booklets for people to take home. Someone yelled out bingo, it's unorganized."
This continued throughout the event and the enclosure was small in my perspective.
Meaningful Action:
For my meaningful action node, I described it in my notes as,
"For the most part I see these people close to my age range and they are doing something good for the community. Talking to people about the election and getting people to vote is very meaningful."
This was observed in my first observation and it was evident that the group's mission was to encourage voter registration and people to vote.
Throughout my observation it was noted that I fit into what I saw as,
"They are going to school like myself and so I know what they are going through because I am dealing with that too. I can see they are stressed and tired from walking like me and I have been complaining just as much as them."
I felt welcomed and it was meaningful to me being in a positive environment and it is noted as,
"I fit in with them because we converse about regular things and I like what they value because this group brings us together in a way through their mission statement "defending people's civil liberties regardless of gender and race."
I noted this as being important to me. Which is why I connected with the group.
Front/Backstage:
Throughout the day of my first observation I was able to see these stages paly out in front of me. I noted this as,
"The "driver" is putting up a front stage to the "loner guy" by being nice to him and offering him food, when I ask her why, she says, "I know he is being mean and a jerk to us, but I feel bad eating in front of him so I have to be nice to him regardless of his behavior."
This behavior continued throughout the day of my observation and the "loner guy" was hostile towards me and everyone in the group. I felt the tensions. He was helpful for my observation and I was able to see his different stages depending on the situation. This is evident in my notes as,
"I notice that the "loner guy" is also putting up a professional front stage as he is speaking to the man taking the survey, he has a serious face on and is giving great responses to the man's questions."
He continued to show me a different behavior as well and insight to his backstage as noted,
"His backstage before knocking on a door, he is nervous, and is repeating what he is planning on saying to the person who answers the door."
I described this as amazing since his front stage was a confident young man, knowledgeable in the election and politics, and it was neat being able to see these two roles in play.
Definition of the situation:
For my first observation, we all had a different definition of the situation. This is evident in my notes as,
"The driver's definition of the situation was getting us around Firebaugh and making sure she had gas to drive us around the city to our locations. She had to drive us to the restroom when we wanted and canvass at the same time. The other two canvassers had to worry about meeting their quotas and these are my field notes."
My notes are reflective of the situations the canvassers were put in and how they interpreted their situations. For me, it was easy because all I had to do was observe and watch them do their job. My definition of the situation was simple, the observer and as noted,
"I was only volunteering and observing everyone, so I didn't have to worry about much."
Since I was volunteering by helping, I also had to canvass at times and this is noted as,
"I must ask people whether they support woman's rights, equal pay, and ending family separation. I must end it with an encouraging message of why it's important to vote."
This was crucial for their campaign and goal for the election. I also thought it was contradictory.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I observed an organization that is local, and I was able to do two participatory observations. The information I gathered from these analyses was compared by using six of sociological theories that I chose to focus on. I was able to see many patterns in correlation to the theories I used for my observations and it was interesting. I mainly used the thick description to describe the scenes in depth and details. I then proceeded to use NVivo to code my theories. My six theories were, thick description, meaningful action, definition of the situation, statuses, and roles. For the tools section I was able to use for my analysis, the program software, NVivo. I included some word clouds as evidence in my methods section.
One finding was how each people in this group have their own front/back stages when it comes to being in their work setting versus a social setting. The second finding was how their roles change from being a field organizer to a canvasser when needed. The third finding was how the fellowship lady seemed to be more in charge than the field organizer which showed a very weird dynamic of roles. My fourth finding was how my key informant had his own campaign, but still had to report to another lady which would sometimes take his role away. My last finding was how relationships would be up in tensions because of the election which was not surprising at all to me. This concludes my observation.
Content Analysis
Introduction
This semester I observed a people's rights organization over the course of a week and they defend civil liberties, regardless of gender and race throughout the nation. This group stands for the things I value as far as women's rights, equality, and bringing awareness to injustices that people of color go through in this society. For the content analysis section, I found 30 sources from my group, such as flyers, ads, stickers, Facebook website, articles, Instagram, YouTube, booklets, the organization's main website, news articles, just to name a few. Collecting all these type of sources about my organization gave me a better understanding of what is going on in this group and things that they are trying to do, it especially gave me an idea as to how big their audiences are. I was also able to see its history and learned a lot from them.
Methods
My content analysis data helped me see how big this organization really is and how I underestimated it in the beginning when I began this research journey, their advertisements seem to work since they focus a lot in them which are easily accessible and available to the public. Ii wasn't at all difficult when trying to find data from my organization because their website is easy to access, and their office provided me with many documents and articles about their group. I found websites that my organization has set up, like their YouTube page where they upload controversial videos, and their Instagram page where they post photos that show change happening. I first began by using the search engine "google" to search my organization's name, and the first thing that shows up is Wikipedia information and its history dating back to the 1920's. I was also able to find other sources like their website where they have basically everything. I was able to get ahold of a lot of information that helped with my nodes. It took me quite a while to look for all my sources, I used their website at home and dedicated 3 hours in searching articles, news videos too. I mainly got my sources through the search engine google, but half of it came from actual documents attained or given to me, totaling close to 30 sources.
When I found all my sources, I had to use the ncapture feature that is avaible on google for chrome, then I had to transfer my sources to nvivo where I proceeded to coding my data. I enjoyed using this feature because it is helpful in capturing everything a website has, although it can be confusing since it copies everything to symbols. Once I had imported all my 29 sources, I coded everything into five nodes which were; agency frame, identity frame, injustice frames, ruling text, and prognosis (solutions). Word frequency was used and text search query, to look for statements for my five nodes. It wasn't hard because my sources were clear and concise. I also hand coded some of my sources because it was more time saving for me since I had mostly articles. For the Nvivo project portion, I had five nodes and I coded many quotes from all my sources.
As a first time researcher for this semester, it was time consuming to try and find all 30 documents for this content analysis paper. I did learn things throughout the way, but it was difficult for the most part. Like I had mentioned earlier in my writing, I used google search engine and found a few news reporting outlets that covered some of my groups issues or concerns. All the sources that I came about were actual written documents or flyers, most were advertisements, but with a purpose that informs its reader about the group. I think the results of this project are evident and the data shows my results regarding my group.
Analysis
All my data came from my sources that I obtained either online or flyers given to me. My 29 sources gave me a better understanding of how my group continues to do their work by making sure everyone's rights are protected and they continue to meet their goals. I was able to learn new information about this group which gave me a broader perspective towards it. I had an idea about the group and some of the data and media outlets only reassured my assumptions of how big this group is, it is nationally everywhere. This group does an amazing job in advertising their mission and goals and have a big fan base of supporters and contributors that range from teachers to senators.
Agency Frame
Agency frame is the concept that explains things about the group. My group defends civil liberties, regardless of gender and race throughout the nation. The group is designed to fight for injustices and certain illegal things that current administrations are doing. Staff members or volunteers help families by giving them access to resources and other organizations. The group has continued to help and has many offices all throughout the nation. Agency frame brings people empowerment and hope. It lets the agency start a conversation on their history. This is a quote I coded in Nvivo pertaining to one of my sources,

"works tirelessly in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the Constitution's promise of liberty for everyone in our country."
This quote explains about how it helps and what it does which is defend and preserve people's liberties. This organization helps in current cases pending and brings some issues to light. The second quote talks about ways to help and how one can help,
Reference 1 - 2.45% Coverage
"3,593,547 people are taking action. Real change starts with you. Freedom can't protect itself. Stand up and take action."
It explains that people can make a difference and how so many others are already making a difference. The last quote states some of the groups purpose and some of its early founders,

"fight for what they believe are important civil liberties issues. It was started in 1920 by Crystal Eastman, Roger Nash Baldwin, and Walter Nelles."
It shows how it's a people's organization and names some important people that started the organization.
Identity Frame
The Identity Frame concept explains who the group is and what it is that they do. It shows how the group sees itself, which is clearly shown on how they have a big community of supporters. Most importantly it is engaging and grabbing the attention of their audience and how it deals with their problems within the group. This quote clearly shows that,

The quote above explains about who they are in their group and what they do as a group. This following quote talks on how they collaborate with other people and how they are crucial in the group's mission,

"Whether in the courts, statehouses, or Congress, we fight to defend the rights
that the Constitution guarantees to all of us — regardless of who we are, where we come from, whom we love, or what we believe. Together we take up the toughest civil liberties challenges of our time. We seek to be the place where people can come, no matter their political affiliation, to courageously act. We seek to inspire those who want change to become the ones who make change. Today, people who are interested in supporting the group do so primarily donating money."
The quote explains how it helps and how it's merely a guide for people to act on their own, and how donating money is big factor. Creating the sense of belonging, a place where people can be their own leaders and identify with the groups mission statement and goals. The last quote says,

"we are a people powered organization with card-carrying members, from every corner of the United States."
The organization is also a place of members that are card holders meaning they have pledged to be a voter and fight for human rights. Many people know of this and have a sense of community when they are part of such big community of card-holders.
Injustice Frames
The injustice concept frame is about problems that the group might face. When there is an issue going on with the group, and what they can they do to deescalate the situation. The quote below says,

"National publicity was recently accorded to a difference of opinion in PR group over whether the Union should give direct legal services (full representation in court) to the defendants in the Spock-Coffin et. al."
The quote talks on how publicity has been a factor on people questioning the groups abilities as far as power goes. The groups solution in fixing this issue is by speaking to court lawyers and coming up with ways in how they can represent people in court. The following quote mentions another problem the organization must deal with,
Reference 1 - 1.82% Coverage
"Thousands of members have quit over the groups stand on such charged issues as the Bakke case and the Nazi's right to march in Skokie. But the leadership insists, the Bill of Rights is our client."
This quote is a perfect example of how the organization sometimes comes face to face with criticism, but if it's to uphold its mission it must not be biased. Many members have values and certain beliefs and sometimes may not agree with what they organization is doing. What the group can do to help is not getting into politics as much and only should focus on certain issues that are not as chaotic. The last quote for injustice frame says,
Reference 4 - 1.40% Coverage
"The organization had sued the city of Charlottesville to allow the Unite the Right rally to happen downtown. And now, it had happened, and blood had been spilled."
This issue is about the group's decision to defend yet another Nazi group and allow them to protest peacefully, but a lot of people do not agree. This organization contradicts itself by aligning itself with hate and racism, I think what it needs to do is choose a side.
Ruling Text
Ruling text is about how the group guides people how to act, behave, and by shaping their behavior. The group guides people by telling everybody how to act. Members don't just tell their volunteers how to act, but it gives guidelines to follow and goals the organization must achieve. This quote illustrates this by,
Reference 1 - 6.00% Coverage
"we want your participation with us to be productive and rewarding. Here are a few ways you can stay connected and involved in defending our fundamental freedoms. Make It Monthly. Make sure the group can respond quickly whenever and wherever our freedoms are threatened by making a monthly pledge."
This statement explains that the participants are guided, and it tells them how to act, by being active monthly. Their goal is to make people committed to their fight for equality and to get an oath of their commitment by being members. The second quote says,
Reference 1 - 2.17% Coverage
"Together, you and the organization can keep fighting back in courts across the country, challenging unconstitutional attacks on voting rights, working in state legislatures
to stop new voter suppression bills from advancing and waging a grassroots campaign to knock down barriers to full voter participation."
This quote is basically talking about people must interact with each other to work together in the campaign. The last quote says,
Reference 2 - 1.54% Coverage
"Ask members to visit the border and see what's happening with their own eyes. Meet with border residents and visit detention facilities and border processing centers and then come back to D.C. and demand answers and changes from agencies."
This statement clearly shows the influence this organization has and what to do to make change happen and how the members can help. It is important for members to act out and have their behavior influenced in order to keep up with the group's mission.
Prognosis Frame (Solutions)
Prognosis frame is about how the organization comes up with a solution to a problem that the community has. There are so many injustices men, women, and children who are discriminated against and which is why this organization has created campaigns and services to defend those individuals. This quote illustrates this by,
Reference 1 - 2.06% Coverage
"Fighting for Reproductive Rights as the only pro-choice organization with lawyers and
advocates on the ground in all 50 states, this organization plays a critical role in standing up to brazen and emboldened opponents of reproductive freedom. At the national level, that means opposing to defund Women's health groups and challenging attempts to let employers use religious or moral objections to deny women access to contraceptive
coverage. And, in states across the country, it means using litigation, legislative advocacy and a loud pub outcry to turn back dangerous assaults on access to abortion and birth control."
This is explaining about how this organization is helping the community by defending women's rights and standing up to employers in trying to defund women's access to contraceptive coverage. The next quote says,
Reference 1 - 5.44% Coverage
"The Trump administration was considering separating immigrant families arriving at the border, including those seeking asylum, to deter others from coming. These families make dangerous journeys to flee persecution and violence in their home countries. Just a few months ago, this organization sued to reunite a mother separated from her 7 year-old."
People might think this isn't doing much, but in suing the trump administration they are making their voice heard. This gives reassurance to the future and helps future parents.
Reference 2 - 1.17% Coverage
"We will keep challenging an immigration detention system that locks up hundreds
of thousands of immigrants unnecessarily every year, exposing detainees to brutal and inhumane conditions. We ' re in court protecting immigrants facing deportation without due process, challenging growing abuses by ICE agents, and pushing back against a rash of anti-immigrant legislation across the country."
This quote ends with an assuring and inspirational tone on how they will keep fighting because recently a lot has happened with the topic of immigration and it is showing how they are helping.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my content analysis was to gather 30 documents/websites, but I was only able to find 29 documents which was part of this bigger project throughout this semester. Most of the sources I found were useful and some were a bit just advertisement, but still helpful in showing me the groups mission. I found that articles were more helpful sources because they gave me more in depth criticism and details on the group's goals and mission. For my analysis portion, I had five different nodes which were; agency frame, identity frame, injustice frames, ruling text, and prognosis frame. I also chose fifteen quotes, I coded from the sources that I found.
